Message from Chief Schmidt
Welcome to the home page of the Elgin Fire Department. My name is David Schmidt and I am the new Fire Chief appointed in November 2016. I have been a member of the Department for more than 27 years and most recently served for 5 years as the Assistant Chief of Operations.

I am excited about where we are as an emergency preparedness and response organization as well as where we are looking to go. The Elgin Fire Department is an all-hazards emergency response agency which means we respond to a wide array of incidents including fire, medical and rescue situations. Our department puts a strong emphasis on training and as Chief I am proud of the knowledge, skills and abilities our personnel exhibit every day.

Over the next few months I have set goals to enhance participation in our Fire Explorer program, build a framework to assist in enhancing diversity during future hiring processes and enhance our social media interaction in an effort to provide greater outreach to the community.

Should you ever have any questions regarding the activities of the Elgin Fire Department please feel free to contact me directly by phone at 847-931-6180 or by email at . You can also interact with us on our Facebook page (Facebook.com/elginfire) or on Twitter (@ElginFD). If you are interested in getting more information on our Fire Explorer program you can check out the Elgin Fire Explorers Facebook page (Facebook.com/efdexplorers439).

I am excited about my new role within the Elgin Fire Department and look forward to interacting with the members our community regularly.
-Chief David Schmidt
