 Hawthorne Hill Nature Center

Outdoor Habitat Work Days
Hawthorne Hill Nature Center uses one Saturday a month to clean up and beautify our nature center. Note: There will be no workday in Jan 2018.

The following lists the upcoming workdays:

 Saturday Dec 16 9:00 a.m. - 12:00 p.m.

Do you love working outdoors and learning about nature? Are you looking for a one day project for you, your family, a club, team or students?

If you answered yes, put on your outdoor work clothes and get ready to have some fun, meet new people and serve the community.

Some of the tasks you may work on include:
  • Clearing weeds, brush and invasive plants
  • Gardening
  • Mulching and clearing trails from weeds and debris.

Requirements: 

  • Must be 16 or older
  • Youth ages 8 - 15 can volunteer if accompanied by a parent or guardian
  • All new volunteers must complete/sign a waiver and bring to the event. NOTE: If under 18, the waiver must be signed by a parent or guardian.

Greeter

  • Are you outgoing, friendly and have a pleasant phone voice?
  • Are you able to work a three hour shift once or twice a month?
  • Do you love nature and helping others but prefer to be indoors?

If you said yes, we have the perfect volunteer opportunity for you. Our nature center is looking for individuals to greet visitors, assist with events, answer the phone and perform general clerical duties.

We are asking for a commitment of once or twice a month for a three hour shift.

Requirements:

  • 18 or older
  • Must pass a background check and sign a waiver
  • Attend Orientation (currently unavailable)
  • Have basic clerical/office skills
  • Have a friendly, helpful attitude

Trail Monitors

Do you enjoy walking trails and love nature? If you do, we would love to have you as one of our Trail Monitors. Being a Trail Monitor means walking our trails and reporting any safety issues, such as overhanging branches or trees blocking the trails.

This position can be performed any time during open hours, all year round.

Requirements:

  • 16 or older
  • Children between the ages of 8 and 15 can volunteer if accompanied by an adult or guardian.
  • All new volunteers must sign a waiver.
