Training opportunity begins in January, 2018

When we had our last homicide, several in the community inquired as to how to become a member of our Community Emergency Response Team (CERT). This team is composed of volunteers who will assist when we need extra help with public safety tasks, which include searching for missing persons, traffic control and several other situations that arise.

Many have asked - can we host a class on the weekend instead of during the week? In January that is happening. Our next CERT training will be held on five consecutive Saturdays, beginning on January 6, from 9 a.m. - 12 p.m.

This is a great opportunity for people to become involved with the police department at a very high level. Maybe you're in college and looking into a public safety career, or you might be a professional who wants to build the volunteer section of your resume. Our team comes from many diverse backgrounds and occupations, as well as neighboring communities. To be utilized in an emergency, you would need to be 18, but you may take the training if you are a teenager with permission from your parents.

We really need the community to help us expand our team!
